So I just finished this book called "16 1/2 on the block" this book is basically about a boy named Mike and a girl named Latina. These two teens are interested in each other and they both go through a difficult situation together. They are trying to get back the money they lost from robbers and if they don't get it then...well you'll find out.
This book made me think about thiefs and criminals. Police officers just throw them in jail without really wanting to try to help them. Sometimes locking someone up away from the world doesn't always help. That doesn't do them any good. They'll probably so it again.
We don't stop to think about why they need that money they robbed. For example in the book the robbers stole the money because his son needs a sugery that cost over $10,000. Where was he going to get that kind of money from? Nobody wanted to give him a job because of his criminal record so he basically had no choice. Now I'm not saying this is right. But we deserve to help people who think that they have no other choice but to rob banks, stores, or people.
So the next time I see on the news that there was a robbery at the towns bank or something I'm not going to react badly right away. I'm not going to look at the person in disgust or in shame. I'm going to put myself in his or hers shoes and try to understand why they did it. I am not going to judge them right away. I think that everybody who commits crimes are not bad people.
noemi,
ReplyDeleteyou have a good point, because usually people don't just steal stuff for the heck of it, and they usually have a strong motive, or had no other choice, or something. but how far does that go? is it okay to kill someone or hurt someone because you 'had no other choice'? what id stealing indirectly kills them?(steal all their money-they die of hunger on the streets) is that excusable?
Your blog made me think about things I have never thought about before. It actually made think about the real world and how unfair it is for robbers, too.But I do agree with the question that claracat asked: How far does it go? You think it's really okay to kill someone just because of their own problems in their own life? To me, I don't think it's fair at all to the robbed or killed person. It's not like they don't have their own life to think about. I just think you need to be more clear on that, but I agree with you that robbers don't just rob for no reason.
ReplyDeleteI am confused.
ReplyDeleteI can see that you say how people do crimes for a reason, but you end with how everyone who commits crimes are bad. I personally think this is incorrect (if this is a typo, then I agree with your point). People have reasons to do bad things - possibly it's because their son is dying. Possibly because the person has been victimized. Maybe the person says there is no reason for it, but there is.
And claracat, I can see what you're explaining, but think in the murderer's shoes - for example, you're hungry. You think you're about to die. But you don't WANT to die. You want to eat. But it's painful. If you think about it, it's pretty much a life-or-death situation. However, if you're homeless because of drugs and so and so, then that's just wrong.
This is only my opinion, although I'd like to hear what you think.
@corina it was a typo
ReplyDeleteI Agree With You Noemi. Many People Judge One Another Without Thinking Of That Person's Circumstances Or Lifestyle. Maybe If Everyone In The World Were To See From Another Perspective, We Wouldn't Have The Same Reactions. But What Makes People Feel This Way & Jump To Conclusions When We Judge One Another ?
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure why it is a crime to do such things because obviously you're going to jail unless you dont get caught.
